Terms of Use

The agreement between you and us. Plain language, and it means what it says.

Agreeing to these terms

By creating an account or using The 2 of Us (the “app”), operated by Cornfield Media, LLC, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app. Our Privacy Policy is part of this agreement.

Who can use it

You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding contract. You may only create an account for yourself, using an email address you control.

Your account

  • Keep your password to yourself and choose one you do not use elsewhere. Anything done through your account is treated as done by you.
  • Tell us promptly at support@cornfieldmedia.com if you think someone else has access.
  • Changing your password ends every session on every device, including the one you change it from. Everything signs in again with the new password.

Sharing a household

A household is a shared space, and that sharing is total. Every member can see and edit every account, balance and transaction in it, including data you added and banks you personally connected. There is no private view and no per-member permission.

Invite people accordingly. Removing someone stops their access from that point on, but they will have already seen what was there, and the transactions they entered stay in the household’s history so the record still adds up.

Connecting banks

Bank connections run through Plaid. By linking an account you authorize us to retrieve your account and transaction information from your bank through Plaid, on an ongoing basis, and you confirm you are entitled to give that authorization for the account you are linking. Your use of Plaid is also governed by Plaid’s own terms and privacy policy. You can disconnect a bank at any time from the Accounts page.

Paying for it

The app is a paid subscription, and the household is the customer rather than the person. One subscription covers everyone in it: joining a household that already pays costs nothing extra, and there is nothing separate for you to buy.

A new household starts with a free trial. Its length and the date it ends are shown on Settings → Billing, and nothing is charged and no card is asked for during it.

After that the subscription renews every month at the price shown before you confirm it, until it is cancelled. Payments are handled by Stripe: your card details go to them and never reach our servers. If the price ever changes, we will tell you before it applies to your household.

You can cancel at any time from Settings → Billing, which opens Stripe’s billing portal. Cancelling stops future charges rather than refunding the month you are in: payments are monthly and non-refundable, and the household keeps working normally through the end of the period you have already paid for.

When a subscription ends, or a trial runs out, the household becomes read-only rather than closed. Everything already recorded stays visible, searchable and downloadable, and nothing is deleted. What stops is adding and editing, linking a new bank, and importing anything new from banks already linked. Subscribing again restores all of it.

What this app is not

  • It is not financial advice. It shows you your own numbers. Deciding what to do about them is yours, and worth a professional’s input for anything significant.
  • It is not a bank and does not move money. Settle-up figures are a suggestion of who owes whom; any actual payment happens between you, elsewhere.
  • It is not your system of record. Imported data can arrive late, incomplete, or restated by your bank, and pending transactions change. Always treat your bank’s own statements as authoritative, especially before making a decision that depends on an exact figure.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Access, or try to access, another household’s data.
  • Probe, scan or interfere with the service, or work around its security or limits.
  • Link a financial account you are not entitled to link.
  • Use the app to break the law, or for anything fraudulent or abusive.
  • Resell the service or use it to build a competing product.

Availability

We do not promise the app will be available without interruption, and we may change or discontinue features. We rely on services outside our control — your bank, Plaid, our hosting — and any of them can be unavailable. Where we can give notice of a significant change, we will.

Your data and ending your account

Your data is yours. Settings → Your data downloads all of it, and Settings → Delete account removes you. If you are the only person in your household, deleting your account deletes the household and every record in it, so export first if you want to keep any of it.

We may suspend or end an account that breaches these terms, or where we must to comply with the law. Except where the breach makes it unreasonable, we will give you a chance to retrieve your data first.

Disclaimers and liability

The app is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not warrant that the information shown is accurate, complete or current — much of it comes from your bank by way of Plaid, and we pass it on as we receive it.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, or for any financial decision made in reliance on what the app displays. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is material we will update the date at the top and tell you in the app. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Iowa, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Nothing in this section removes any protection you have under the mandatory law of the country you live in.
